Early in his career he worked as an artist for the Ziegfeld Follies and many Hollywood studios which included featuring a near-naked Zita Johann, in a pose of desperation, on the poster for the 1933 film The Sin of Nora Moran. In the 1940s he became famous as the creator of the iconic World War II era "Varga Girl" pin-ups.
